How to write a consultant profile that wins bids

The summary – the consultant profile – is the first 3–4 lines of the CV. It is the only part many evaluators read carefully in the first round. A weak profile can cost you points even if the project list is strong. A sharp profile makes the evaluator look for confirmation in the rest of the CV.

The formula: role + domain + result + relevance

A good consultant profile answers four questions in at most four sentences: What are you? Where have you done it? What was the result? And why does it fit this assignment? The last part is rewritten for every bid – the rest can stay the same.

Weak versus strong

  • Weak: “Experienced and skilled consultant with broad expertise and good collaboration skills.” – says nothing concrete
  • Better: “Security architect with 14 years of experience in health and finance.” – concrete role and domain
  • Strong: “Security architect with 14 years of experience in health and finance. Established the security function for a national health platform with 40,000 users and led three cloud migrations with zero downtime.”

Common mistakes

  • Generic adjectives (“skilled”, “dedicated”, “results-oriented”) without evidence
  • First person and narrative voice – consultant CVs are written in third person or with the subject omitted
  • The same profile for every tender – the last sentence must always be tied to the assignment at hand
  • A summary that is too long – beyond five lines the evaluator skims past

How the profile sits in a finished CV

Notice how the summary at the top reflects the requirements of the assignment, and how the project list below confirms every claim.
