Consultant CV: template and complete example

A consultant CV has one job: to convince a client that you are the right choice for a specific assignment. That makes it different from an ordinary job-seeker CV. Where a job-seeker CV tells your whole story, the consultant CV is a sales document built around projects and results.

How to structure the consultant CV

• Summary: 2–4 sentences on who you are and what you deliver, tailored to the assignment
• Key qualifications: 5–8 points with what you want the evaluator to remember
• Selected projects: the heart of the CV – role, client, period, scope and results per project
• Work experience: employers and positions in chronological order
• Education and certifications: short and precise, with years
• Skills and tools: domains, methods and technology as keywords

The project description makes the difference

Describe every project with the same structure: what was the assignment, what was your role, and what was the result? Use numbers where you can. “Led migration of the core system for 40,000 users, delivered two months ahead of schedule” says more than three paragraphs of responsibilities.

Keep the language active and concrete. Write “established”, “led”, “reduced” – not “contributed to” and “took part in”. The evaluator should not have to guess what you actually did.
